The attendant flinched bodily, but was cut off by the guest as he sat opposite Seiji. “No, this is correct. He’s teasing you,” he said, reassuring the increasingly mortified attendant in a kind voice that only betrayed its annoyance if you knew the speaker quite well.
Seiji smiled. “Yes, I was. My apologies.” He turned to his guest. “To what do I owe the pleasure, Natori-san?”

Truly, the only entertaining element is that it is Veritas Ratio who must follow him through a swarm of hunters waiting to sink their claws deep into his throat.

Look, let’s not beat around the bush. He’s beautiful. There’s this carefully detached air to him as he stares off somewhere else, yet there’s the hint of a smile at his lips. He taps his fingers in a rhythm on his knee as the doctor talks—and, really, that’s far more engaging than whatever she’s saying at this point. Because it’s… practiced, maybe, is the word. He’s beautiful—and you can tell he knows, plays it up through his nonchalance.
Apollo swallows, pulse picking up. The assistant shifts—just barely—and flicks his gaze to Apollo’s. He quirks an eyebrow in that same blasé manner—the only indication that he noticed anything at all.
Ah. So he’s the center’s vampire. It’s starting to become more commonplace for plasma donation clinics to have them on staff—something about vampires being able to better identify abnormalities in the blood, pulse, whatever. So Apollo can’t even find him attractive in peace—go figure.

“Hugo.” Lycaon doesn’t even have the decency to sound winded, although it means the frustration is all the more obvious in his voice. He stops several paces away, further than their usual preference, obviously wary of spooking Hugo into fleeing once more. “Stop fucking running.”
“I already stopped,” Hugo points out. “Otherwise, you wouldn’t even be able to catch my shadow.”
Lycaon’s eyes flash with ire, but after a moment, he backs down. When he speaks again, the previous hesitance is back. “Then… can we talk?”
“What’s there to talk about?” Hugo says. “Jack was very clear. He doesn’t trust me. And you obviously agree.”
“I do trust you—”
“Because your silence was so convincing.”
Lycaon opens his mouth, but no words emerge.
Hugo smiles. It feels overstretched on his lips, stiff and unnatural. “Like so,” he says softly, and takes a step backward.
(A canon divergence story set during Hugo and Lycaon's youth, in which Hugo overhears the entire conversation between Jack and Lycaon in that small attic.
Only this time, Lycaon realizes that Hugo was there, and that he heard everything).

Beget a worthy heir, as many tries as it takes. Teach him—it must be a him—to wield a bow and arrow, to enunciate spells so resoundingly that they reach the gods, to chop up his heart and eat it before their enemies can. Balance that with leading the clan; with having a wife, a stranger in his room bearing more than his name.
He has to let go of everything that would impede the Matoba legacy, transcending one man’s wants. He has to marry her.
More than the sake rises up Seiji’s throat.
