Summary
It’s been less than two months since John Kramer’s death. Less than two months since Amanda and Lawrence pinned every remaining loose end a little too tidily on Detective Mark Hoffman. He fit the profile and had the benefit of being the only face any surviving victims had seen—except for the woman Amanda had locked in a shotgun collar face to face.
“She’s a doctor,” Amanda says before thinking better of it.
Insult to injury. Adam scoffs. “Woooow. And now you’re blowing up my spot. Everyone’s a critic when I want to screw the hot married doctor, but when Mandy does it…”
“She’s also a mom,” she adds apologetically.
He swears under his breath. “All the best things happen to the worst people.”

Two weeks before the premiere of the biggest film of Dave's career, Bro kills himself.
“Dead,” Dirk repeats over the phone. “Bro is D-E-A-D, dead. The apartment is a shithole. Even though the man of the hour is staying in Chez Morgue Drawer, he did a number on the place first. I wouldn’t be asking if I could handle it myself.”
“Just call the Hoarders people. He’s your guy. I didn’t even know him.” Despite being iteration ten thousand, the lie feels less natural than it usually does. “I don’t need to be there. Neither of us do.”
“Totally.” Dirk sounds like sidewalk. “Yeah, no, that was my first thought, but then I slept on it and applied a modicum of critical thinking. In that 'Puppet Fetish Porn Studio Unearthed in Childhood Home of Indie Darling' is gonna boost neither of our ratings.”
Despite the tags, this is a comedy. Or is it?

Kramer, a man in Adam’s friend’s apartment building, died expectedly and without mystery. He left little behind save for a typewritten film criticism of The Gordon Record. In lieu of any family or friends to accept the work, Adam saved the manuscript and resolved to get it published on Kramer’s behalf.
While editing it and verifying the sources, however, Adam quickly realized there was no record of the film’s existence; no digital copy, no release date, no showings, and not a single article or interview related to it or any of the people involved in its creation. Here sit hundreds of pages of analysis and works cited for a film that isn’t real, compiled by someone who can’t tell the difference.

Summary
After surviving the bathroom, all Adam wants is to repress whatever he has to and get on with his life. Lawrence makes this difficult.
“Do you know,” Lawrence says, “What happened to the original Saint Laurence?”
“No?” Adam says, not sure where this is going. They pull up at a set of traffic lights and the red glow of them makes Lawrence look suddenly demonic.
“He was roasted on a gridiron over hot coals,” Lawrence says. “There’s a legend that halfway through he called one of his persecutors over and whispered something in his ear.”
“What was it?”
Lawrence looks over at him and grins, showing off his perfect white teeth. “I’m done on this side. Turn me over.”
Adam wrinkles up his nose. “Cute.”
