    Summary

    Olruggio has always been kind.

He is intelligent. Perceptive. Infuriatingly good at dancing.

    Beautiful, charismatic, endlessly patient.

    Olruggio is perfect.

Unfortunately, Qifrey is not the only one who has noticed.

    ________________________

Or when Qifrey had long accepted one simple truth: Olruggio was dangerously easy to love.
Which would have been manageable… if everyone else in the world had not apparently come to the exact same conclusion.

    Summary

Qifrey could feel the world press down on him, between his ribs and against his sternum. The pressure intensified when he saw the sun grow to its fullest position in the sky, when he ate a good meal, when Master Beldaruit gently pat him on the head, or when Olruggio grabbed his hand and ran—when the world was right, and things were warm, and he sat on the shore and could feel something grow and spiral within his flesh, under his eyelids. Qifrey felt it, and after the Tower of Tomes, he knew what it meant—knew the cursed nature—and he felt guilt grow like a weed in a garden, soil clumping under his fingertips. Even when the water crept up, and he thought about drowning and old wooden boxes under tree roots and daft soil—even then—he was stuck in his little spot between living and giving up. Not knowing who he was before, not understanding how it could have happened—the water had cradled him, and he loathed it—the disgust of being born anew, memories squeaky clean.

When Olruggio told him keep your promise, shining and bright, Qifrey wished he could break it instead. This didn’t change, even when they graduated. This didn’t change at all.

    Summary

A witch’s pen, ink, and quire are their most important possessions, and to lose even one of their three most coveted components oft renders the ability for a witch to cast null in its entirety. It is a true feat of talent, skill, and practice to be able to write seals upon surfaces different from those meant for a standard, or even specialized, woodcuror wand or dip pen. For a witch to be able to cast without conjuring ink, well that is something that is simply impossible, at least for those of upstanding witch society. Which is why, of all the components that each and every witch uses, each and every day, they always take extra care to keep their ink well stocked, and safe above all else.

'a witch must never lose their casting components, their ink specifically.' that is the teaching the great hall duly impressed into every young witch's mind.

Qifrey is not the average witch born of the great hall, though.

Qifrey will never be left without ink, and this is not a blessing

    Summary

Qifrey's first heat was awful. It hurt, he was barely conscious, and from Beldaruit's words, clingy. And it being awful was likely the reason why he was still alive.

After being cured from the curse, Qifrey now has to deal with a disaster that is his collapsing body.
It doesn't help that he never had a normal heat in his life.
