Summary
Perhaps it was nothing more than desperation that prompted you to slip past DI Jill Raymond—a persistent thorn in Kate’s side and infuriatingly, undeniably handsome both in spite of and because of it—through the door she held open for you, tossing her a cheeky, over-the-shoulder smile as you passed. The older blonde smirked, her hand immediately sliding along your shoulders as you came to a stop at the bar to help you out of your coat.

Summary
That word—“friends”—comes out of Colin almost hesitantly.… Almost as if he’s asking for permission to use it. Trent’s breath catches in his throat. His face flushes and, for a moment, he can only stare at the stone steps where they sit. Ideas escape him, for both words and actions.
Try as he might to wrack his brain for something, he can’t remember the last time somebody asked him if they were friends. Can’t recall the last time someone let him know they actively wanted that from him, either.
All that comes to mind is so simple, yet it weighs on him so heavily: a family-owned Indian restaurant, the incandescent lighting modest, which makes the face across from Trent’s own look that much brighter by comparison. Brown eyes, deep and warm, all aglow while Ted said those sweet little words as easily as breathing. “I really enjoyed getting to spend this time with you, Trent.”
Trent and Colin have time to kill at the Homomonument before the party back at Prik. For all he likes the idea of this “friendship” thing, Trent would rather it didn’t involve him admitting how he feels about Ted.

Summary
Had you looked back toward the bench then, you might have noticed the way Jill’s eyes darkened as she watched the exchange—your friendly gesture entirely misread from across the garden. Her mouth tightened into a thin sneer as her gaze fixed squarely on the tall, broadly smiling man beside you. The intensity of it was enough that the passing waitress hastily set a fresh pint down in front of Jill without lingering, clearly unwilling to remain within the radius of that particular foul mood any longer than absolutely necessary.
Jill and you have been fighting and a spark of jealousy is all it takes for her to start apologising; in Jill's way, of course.
