Dan, who laughs until he's shaking at the absolute worst of Phil's jokes, who closes his eyes without realizing when sunlight touches his face, who can't cook and stares at department-store dresses with tangible longing and sings all the high notes of Muse in the shower - to think of that Dan looking at himself and feeling hatred, wanting to hurt, wanting to disappear -
    It isn't easy.
