Summary
There were still spaces that warped and shifted unpredictably. They were marked by doorways that he couldn't bring himself to pass through. Hallways that he couldn't turn his head to look down, sure there was something there that he wouldn't want to see. There were others who had had the same feelings, but pushed past them.
He never saw them again in the house.
Or: San enters a haunted house.

Summary
"What we need is a militant ally. The Bang Kingdom is paramount to this victory."
He stilled. The first thought he had of the aforementioned kingdom was not a great one. In fact, the only image he could conjure of the place was that of barbarians and savage monsters that tore through their lands. Or so every merchant he allowed to entertain him would say. They spun stories about them, and the bobbles they managed to pull from those lands.

“For starters: how long you been down here?”
“What day is it?”
“Wednesday.”
San sighed, the sound not so much frustrated as it was tired. “Of the month.”
“October third.” The answer drew a sharp inhale from the man.
“I’ve been in here since March, then.” -

Summary
Wooyoung’s cousin Hongjoong is dead.
The news hits him more on the bus than it did when they first got the call. His mother had answered the phone, gone so silent and still that he thought she’d had a heart attack. It hadn’t even been clear if she was sobbing or if Hongjoong’s mother was over the phone. The dread seeps into him as he sits on the mostly empty bus. The seats are soft and plush. This is not the usual bus that heads out this way. The people on it are even more unusual. Solemn, as if they, too, have gotten the news.
Kim Hongjoong is dead.

Summary
“Are you having fun?” Seonghwa asks, voice teasing.
“Of course,” San says. “I would have enjoyed it a little more if my husband wasn’t walking around telling off reporters for being intrusive,” San continues, voice lilting and soft, a tenderness coming over his eyes that makes Seonghwa’s heart skip a beat.
It’s even easier to pretend that San hadn’t helped him slit another man’s throat just the night before when he smiles at him like this. Seonghwa will take every shot at normalcy he gets.
“What else am I here for?” Seonghwa asks, feigning curiosity.
“You’re here to support me,” he says, fluttering his eyelashes and continues in a lower, husky voice, “and show others that I’m taken, that the only one who gets to take me home is you.”
Or, Seonghwa and San are married crime lords thrown into the life of depravity without a choice, and they learn as they go, counting on each other.

Summary
The past is sometimes hard to forget; it often makes us what we are today. For Wooyoung, it's a painful reminder of his own weakness. For San it's an affirmation of the monster that he truly is.
Neither of them have enough trust in others. Forced in a circumstance that neither could have foreseen, will shift beliefs and feelings that they had once firmly believed in.
