    Peter Parker is nothing. He used to be something, mean something, and then he fucked up. He had everything, the whole world; two best friends, his Aunt May, and even a new budding father-like figure in Tony Stark. Now, though? He had nothing.

    No more late night lab visits with Mr. Stark, hacking into government websites and building new stupid nanotech bots that vacuum the floor only if you beg it and sound like a certain Captain, or robots that twisted in all angles like infinity cubes to play ultimate twister with. No more study sessions with MJ, listening to old punk rock bands and doodling in the margins. No more lego building with Ned, building and taking apart and building that Lego Death Star dozens of times in his bedroom.

    And, worst of all, no Aunt May to wake him up on his bad days with a worried frown on her lips and a fresh hot chocolate in her hands to warm him.

    Peter Parker ends up in Gotham, an alternative universe, with soulmates and weird smells.

When a dimensional accident flings him into a universe where society is divided by biological castes, his body and instincts do whatever it takes to survive—even if Peter has absolutely no idea what any of that chemical bullshit means.

    Pretending to be a Beta works wonders for keeping his distance, especially from this world's Tony Stark. The problem with gravity, though, is that no matter how hard you fight it, it always ends up dragging you back to the ground.

    Or: Peter copes with the trauma of his losses and a biology he doesn't understand, while the Avengers—specifically Tony Stark—try to protect a fourteen-year-old pup who absolutely refuses to be protected.

That is, until Beau asks Caleb to take a strangely behaving, tattooed, guardian-less Tiefling from a failed circus in his care while she finds out why others are conspiring to get him in their control.

    ‘I’m not jealous, don’t be ridiculous,’ Essek said. ‘I -’ he paused again, clearly looking for just the right words in a foreign language to express a delicate idea, ‘I’m afraid, knowing people and knowing the Empire, that if I did not know you so intimately, my friend, I would have to assume you to be among the worst kind of persons.’
