Not only were the Trials torture and the Path gruelling, but the mutations aren't exactly predictable. They're a crapshoot—the reason seven of ten kids die is because seven of ten times, the things they do to you are things you can't return from. But things you can return from still leave marks that never heal. Just because a handful of boys come out with their limbs and minds in tact, without losing their sight or their ability to eat or speak or the function of their vital organs doesn't make them perfect specimens.
In short, there are flaws. Every witcher has them.

Her dextrous fingers weave strands of long wild grass between forget-me-nots and apple blossoms. They don't know most things about this place, still. It has a way of making you forget to wonder. The flower crown is a little too small for either of their heads.
