Summary
In short instances, a feeling would wash over Daniel. Almost like a sting, traveling through every piece of him. The feeling was so strong, he felt as though the air was being sucked from his lungs. He was being watched.
No matter how much every fiber of his being told him to run, to escape from those watchful eyes, he never moved. Pick, pick, pick. The itch grew. His fingernail stung, then soothed as the blood prickled over.
When the feeling would withdraw, whoever lingered disappearing, Daniel felt the unease rise back to the surface. For those small moments, it's almost as if the hole in his life is beginning to fill back in.
Daniel brings his finger to his mouth, licking up the blood, stomach twisting unnaturally as he does. Then he lights a cigarette, and makes his way home.
