    Summary

Apollo Justice doesn’t believe in ghost stories. Far too many people have left him with unfinished business for him to place any merit on the idea that only the dead know how to haunt. But when a strange defendant swears up and down that he didn’t commit the murder, a ghost did, Apollo finds himself stuck in the middle of an eerily unusual investigation of a hotel that prides itself on an unsolved mystery from exactly one hundred years ago. With only Klavier and his equally obnoxious Gavinners-branded tent for company, he delves into a world of intrigue that began in 1926, but that has to end tonight.

Temenos reaches up and pulls the hood of Crick’s own cape upward and over his head, blocking Crick’s view of the alley entrance. “With your life?”

    Crick swallows. “Yes.”

Temenos casts one last glance at the alley entrance, murmurs a quick prayer to Aelfric, and then looks back at Crick. His eyes are ablaze with adrenaline and something else that Crick doesn’t have time to place before he says, “Follow my lead,” and pulls Crick into a kiss.

"Well." Keishin makes a show of yawning again and drops his bag on the foot of the bed. "Better this than sharing with twelve teenage boys."
"Goodness, yes," Takeda agrees, laughing again. "Barely different from our usual anyway."
Keishin shrugs. As far as he's concerned, it's about as different as different can get. Sharing a room with Takeda at away games has been nerve-wracking enough as it is lately. It has become increasingly difficult to keep himself from saying something he shouldn't in the quiet hours of night, especially when he and Takeda return to their room red-faced and laughing after drinks with Nekomata. The careful gulf of bare tatami between his futon and Takeda's always feels much too narrow for comfort and yet somehow impossibly wide.
This will be nothing like that. This time they'll be sharing a mattress, blankets, personal space, warmth. . .

A hotel booking mistake puts Ukai and Takeda in an awkward situation during an away game.

If someone had asked Daichi yesterday how he planned to spend his Monday lunch period, he probably would have answered "eating my lunch" or "thinking about volleyball" or "eating my lunch while thinking about volleyball." He would not have answered "sneaking into the staff room to hack into my physics teacher's email so I can delete the embarrassing video my best friend accidentally submitted in place of our projectile motion assignment"—and yet somehow, to his profound horror, here he is, slandering the father of modern physics to his teacher's face as he stalls desperately for time.
