Summary
Lan Wangji feels his heart break. He wishes he could scoop the children up and hide them somewhere, where nothing will ever hurt them again. “Please, all of you eat,” he pleads. “There will always be enough from now on. It is my promise.”
“You’re too good, Hanguang-jun,” Wei Wuxian sighs. “You’ll make a wonderful father someday.”
“I will have learnt from the best,” he nods at Wei Wuxian. The man’s cheeks fill with colour so pretty, Lan Wangji has to turn away entirely in order to breathe again.

Summary
“Hallo?” Called a voice. Tentative.
Given it didn’t massively sound like the voice of an axe murderer, Wangji took himself down the stairs to find a dripping man at the entrance. Despite his dishevelment, Wangji was stunned into stillness by him on the bottom step of the staircase.
Light beamed out of this man’s eyes as he smiled. He wore his hair long, and water fell in rivulets from the ends. He was the peak of perfect youth in his tight scraggy jeans and T-shirt, an utterly weather inappropriate light jacket hanging from his hand.
'Muse'. Wangji’s treacherous mind whispered to him.
“I don’t bite.” The man said, in the broadest Welsh accent Wangji thought he’d ever heard. “Are you wearing rabbit pyjamas?”
Lan Wangji takes himself up a Welsh mountain to unblock his poetry and finds more than he bargained for.

Wei Ying gets off his stool and kneels in front of her to show her his phone. “Look,” he says, tapping on one of his dating apps. “I think you should try one of these for a few months before we speak any further about - uh - mystical options.”
“Oh,” she says, leaning back and pulling at the string around her neck to pop on her glasses. “My, my.”
“Have you had a go before?” He asks her, kneeling back on his haunches, pleased with himself.
She shakes her head, peering at the app, and so he hands his phone over.
“Have you had much joy with it?” She says, frowning as she swipes through the profiles.
Wei Ying suppresses a wince. In truth, it’s been hopeless. “Just haven’t met the right girl yet,” he says. “It’s been fun though - and certainly not boring.”
She looks up at him and he grins back, nods at her encouragingly.
She moves her head back and forth. “Well -,” she says.
“My job -, you know -,” he says. “It’s sort of hard to explain to a prospective partner.”
She nods a bit too quickly, Wei Ying feels.
