so when she hears that luthorcorp has teamed up with the lazarus corporation headed by the elusive talia al-ghul, she thinks she has her next story (and distraction).
but she’s in for a surprise when she finds out she’s not the only one on the case - she runs into the very coworker she’s trying to avoid (cause, of course) and gotham city’s billionaire playboy bruce wayne (huh?).

Lois had wished she could have put a smile on Clark’s face during dinner, turn that frown upside down and all, but she couldn’t have focused her energy on that with Oliver - her boyfriend who needed her - right beside her. Lois couldn’t help but mourn the lack of opportunity for a few selfish reasons as well, being on the receiving end of Clark’s radiant smile was like being bathed in sunlight after a long winter.
Or: Lois is so happy that she is back with Oliver, but she can’t keep her eyes off Clark. It’s probably ‘cause he helped them get back together, right?

Summary
Someone new moved to Smallville, in the house on the other side of the Kent farm.
Clark meets the new kid, Bruce Wayne, and his first impression isn't great. He thinks that Bruce is spoiled and rude and out of place. Maybe that's why he blows up at him. But he still saves him when he's in trouble, that's just the kind of person that Clark is.
After a while they develop a tentative kind of friendship over the summer. Bruce isn't like anyone else that Clark knows, and he feels connected to him in all of his out of place-ness.
His own feelings for the other take him by surprise, he only hopes that he can stomp them down before he ruins their friendship over them.
