“You know he’s not real, right?” Natalie smirks, leaning forward, daring Jackie to say something.Jackie glares at her, instinctively leaning away, like proximity to Natalie might somehow lower her IQ. Not that it’s working—Natalie just moves, rings clinking and clanging with every tiny motion, obnoxiously loud in the quiet space. Jackie’s eyes flick to them, drawn in like a crow spotting something shiny.
Then, Natalie’s hand moves—to pick up a coffee cup, of all things—and that’s enough to snap Jackie out of it. She scoffs, disgusted with herself. God, get a grip.
“You’re not real,” she mutters, like that somehow means anything.

It’s like there’s a million invisible hands clawing at her arm, prying at her trembling grip on the wooden handle, cutting themselves open on the blade. Hands don’t scream, but these ones can, and they’re shrieking at her to stop, stop, stop–
