It made sense in the end that eventually Yuna Hollander would come to love Ilya Rozanov as if he was the second child that she didn’t know she wanted. When Shane was born it had been enough for her. She would never say that to give birth to Shane came with a sacrifice, because to her that meant, she was giving up something. The truth was: she had given up a lot of things before Shane came into the picture. She, after all, chose David Hollander first.

“Sometimes I forget that you’re gone.” Abby says, her eyes are looking at the swingset that Frank built four years ago, before the kids could even swing on it. “And then it’s days like today where I’m reminded.” she looks down now at the glass of lemonade maybe wishing it was something else.
“I know.” Frank says even more quietly. His finger taps against the glass, he looks up at the sky, it’s hot outside but there’s a slight breeze and he closes his eyes. He remembers when Tanner was born he would sit outside here on the porch with him against his chest because it felt like the only place he could breathe, it was before he messed up his back, he could slouch in the chair for hours without his back hurting. Everything was so different now.
