Xiao is a regular college student with a strange hobby: between classes and shifts at his part-time job as a barista at a bubble tea place, he likes listening to ASMR roleplay videos, particularly by a certain user that goes by the name of "rex.lapis."

gentaro is a manakete- a dragon capable of living thousands of years and walking alongside humans. a hundred years ago, he makes a friend- the light of his life, a human boy living in a quiet village on the outskirts of chuuo. however, a mysterious illness cuts his life short, and teaches gentaro something he’d never thought about before.
while they may look alike, sharing the same language and the same appearance, the lives of humans are short- minuscule, compared to his.
the grief of losing his friend threatens to send him into madness, so to protect both the people of the village and himself, he isolates himself, falling into a deep slumber for a hundred years.
the world he wakes up in, however, isn't quite the same.
the village his friend lived in, while still standing, is all but abandoned- evacuated in a war, with any traces of his friend’s family no longer living there. there is a glimmer of hope, though: many of the people of the village fled to the country’s capital city, including his friend’s family.
determined to find peace and the remaining legacy of his late friend, gentaro sets out on a journey across the country, meeting a number of strange people along the way.

jiro is fifteen, now- basically a young man, and definitely among one of the older children that call the orphanage his home. he knows each child by name, if only because he’s the one helping housen rein them in: there’s yuki, who needs help tying her hair into buns in the morning because she’s so sleepy; riku, who tries to keep up with him when they play soccer in the yard even when he’s out of breath; and chihiro, who draws them all holding hands and tries her hardest to fit “jiro onii-san” onto the tiny figures with big, neat letters.

His words were more resolute now, but he yet refused to meet Flins' gaze. "Souls in Teyvat… they can reincarnate… Right?" Flins nodded, following the man's train of thought, "So, then… Promise me that you'll wait for me. Because I know I'll find you…"
