Summary
After years of war with the Yunmeng kingdom, it seems the Gusu empire finally found an advantage through the Venerated Triad Alliance. Although it would take a miracle for Yunmeng to win, Emperor Lan Wangji offers a ceasefire in exchange for General Wei Wuxian as a bride. Whether out of love or hate, neither the Jiangs nor Gusu's allies want this.
Wei Wuxian is the only person willing to accept the deal and become a concubine. Although they are enemies, in all their interactions Lan Wangji has been honest and straightforward. So Wei Wuxian sets off in the dead of night to Gusu, but members of all the factions are willing to do whatever it takes to keep him from reaching his destination.

Summary

Featuring: bickering, rough sex, the deliciously codependent mess that is sashisu, cigarettes, cheap vodka, expensive art supplies, shoko’s cruel streak, suguru actually respecting satoru's boundaries, and satoru deflecting earnest conversation like his life depends on it.

Summary
No one could know she brought them back. Even powerless (weak), even as non-sorcerers (monkeys), even without the higher-ups, universal law dictates that they would only be used again. And Shoko, a bona fide necromancer? She would never know peace.
She knows, now, that her job was never about saving people. It had always been about fitting for purpose; getting fodder back on its feet for another round in the ring. Shoko was tired. Their revival would be her final act of service, and it would be purely selfish. The only person she told was Okkotsu, who she felt would understand the most. He had been the one to puppet the monster, after all.
So, she signed their death certificates with love and a flourish, and booked the next ferry to Shanghai.

The fans part, and Shoko’s heart stutters. Suguru can feel his throb in the tips of his fingers, in the soles of his feet. She’s ethereal. Hair a shock of gossamer pearlescence, cloudy pastel shadow around blue, blue, eyes. The bluest eyes they’ve ever seen. Somewhere between celestial paradise and Neptune, interstellar dust.
A deity indeed.
Every patron in the room hoots and screams. Her lips curl, her smile a unique sort of enlightenment. “Such a warm welcome,” she purrs.
Shoko thinks perhaps a creature like this is beyond comprehension. She turns to Suguru. Stretches up to speak directly into his ear. “I’d kill for her,” she says.
“I’d let her kill me,” he replies.
(One gloomy night in January, Shoko and Suguru encounter a divine being. They buy him peach juice.)
