Once the blond had left them, she turned to the other feline with a serious expression on her face, “I’m sorry, I don’t think you’re fit to be training right now, Carlo. And before you get all defensive on me, it’s not for the reason you might be thinking. I just don’t believe it would be responsible to go through such rigorous training while carrying a pup.”
He had been about to beg and plead again, when Lea's words suddenly cut through him like a knife. "A… pup?"
What was she talking about? Carry a pup? As in pregnant? Carlo wasn't pregnant. He couldn't be. He had only been with Romeo that one time. It was one little heat. There was no way. Romeo had even worn a condom through the rest of his heat. The blond only came in him once that very first time.

Summary
Carlo sighed happily, taking a sip of his hot chocolate once he knew it wouldn’t burn his tongue. He had already had to reprimand Romeo for trying to drink his too soon, the damn boy was far too impatient. However, Carlo suspected Romeo had burnt his tongue on purpose so that Carlo could soothe it with his own. He leaned back against Romeo who had finished his drink and had his arms wrapped around him, his cheek resting atop Carlo’s head.
“You think it’s gonna be like this forever?” Romeo asked, his voice sounding genuinely unsure. It made Carlo’s heart ache.
“It can be however we want it to be.” Carlo answered quietly, though he knew it wasn’t true. They could only control their fates so much. Krat was changing around them, the alchemists were planning something and the future was uncertain. That was why they had to live while they still could. Who knew how many more falls they would have together.

Summary
Carlo had never cared for romance. With his experiences as a child, that wasn’t surprising to anyone. He was very good at keeping people at arm’s length, not allowing anyone to get too close lest they wind up hurting him the way his father had. For this reason, everyone assumed Carlo didn’t want friends, but Romeo had seen right through him. Romeo knew how desperate Carlo was to find someone that would stay.
Somehow, Romeo had become that someone. He was the one that wouldn’t leave Carlo. He was the one to make him smile again.
And Carlo cared for him. Romeo was his best friend, of course he cared about him. It was a kind of love, he figured, but that was the closest to romance that Carlo would ever get. He would never fall in love with anyone. He would never actively try and seek someone out to spend the rest of his life with. He had Romeo, so why would he need anyone else?
Unfortunately, Romeo didn’t think the same way Carlo did.
Or: Romeo reaches that tender age where he starts dating every girl in sight and Carlo has complicated feelings over watching his friend making out with girls.

“Carlo!” he shouted, charging at the boy.
Carlo seemed to not notice his presence, not reacting in the slightest. His brown eyes were glazed over as if he were in a trance and he continued eating unimpeded.
Romeo grabbed Carlo’s arm and shook him as hard as he could, causing every inch of him to jiggle but not eliciting any kind of response from the brunet. “Carlo! Snap out of it!”
Carlo let out a little huff and raised a pastry to his mouth, taking a bite. A glob of strawberry jam fell into his lap, staining his trousers, but he seemed not to care.
“We have to get out of here!” Romeo’s voice was filled with sheer panic. “Y-You’re turning into a donkey! I-I think the others turned into donkeys too! We have to leave! Now!”
Again, Carlo didn’t respond. He just kept eating.

Summary
The Hermit's Cave didn't offer the most comfortable accommodations, but it was a relatively safe place to rest and recover while the group planned their next move. The reprieve gave Romeo time to think, Carlo time to overthink, and P time to adjust to the dynamic developing between the three of them.

Summary
The last thing Lea saw when she closed her eyes in the Rose Garden was the corpse of the gray-haired stranger. The last thing she felt was grief. She and her mysterious companion had failed, and Romeo would pay the price just as Carlo had before. She had been living a nightmare which had finally come to its bloody, bitter end.
It must have been a nightmare. Why else would she have woken up?
Meanwhile, P awoke to a Krat even more foreign to him than the one he'd seen in Lea's time. This bright, thriving city had yet to experience the worst of its troubles. And with the Carlo of this time still alive and well, P realized he could keep it that way. Alone, it would be a difficult fight. Luckily, someone who had lived those same nightmares was just as determined to keep them from ever coming to pass.
Time travel fix-it in an AU where Lea and P lost to Arlecchino

“Are you planning to tell me how I’m still alive?” Romeo asks.
P blinks, perhaps surprised at Romeo’s coherency, or vitriol, or both. “I was able to preserve your Ergo. It was easy enough to construct that body after my own schematics."
Slowly, Romeo forces air into his chest, a humming buzz the only sensation beneath his fingertips. “And what does that make me now?”
The smile P gives is odd, as though he’s both unfamiliar with the practice of it and the emotion behind it all at once. “Like me, I think.”
Or, Romeo is revived in a puppet body similar to P's, just in time to meet a familiar face from Venigni's past that threatens both his quickly forming bond with P and all of Krat's new, fragile peace.
