Summary
Toji auctioned his son to Naobito with a starting price of ¥7,000,000. Naobito raised Toji ¥10,000,000, dependent on his technique. Since Megumi was summarily orphaned in 2006 – by Satoru – he’s now free game. A child was bartered, and now a child will be displaced, without ever knowing of the 'money talk' had behind his back.
The tragedy of Megumi’s youth is not lost on Satoru. In fact, it’s painfully nostalgic, the notion of being stripped of your personhood before you can fully develop one. Megumi’s never been to school; likely can’t ride a bicycle; doesn’t, realistically, possess the bilateral coordination required to tie his own shoelaces. He still has his milk teeth, and yet – he already has a price. And the girl he’s with is, diametrically, completely worthless.
He would like to say his next move is selfless. That it’s about the emancipation of a child from shackles with which he is well-acquainted. And it is, to an extent. But in the end, this isn’t really about Megumi’s salvation. It’s about Satoru’s. Because the thing with power is –
It’s lonely.
(They say it takes a village to raise a child. It takes four powerful sorcerers to raise two.)

Summary
“Are you upset?” Satoru asked.
“I feel…” Suguru paused to make sure he picked the right words. “It makes me feel sad that it’s been so long.”
“Ah.”
“Almost a sense of shame, even,” Suguru continued in a murmur. “Not regret. The love I have for you stops me completely from feeling anything like regret for you.”
_____
Satoru, the leader of his clan, is researching imprinting for undisclosed purposes. He requests the help of Suguru, his old friend, in researching a man he thinks has experienced something similar. In working together, neither of them are able to ignore the glaring similarities between themselves and the man they are seeking to question.

Summary
He supposes he can be too loud. Annoying. Occasionally unhinged. He’s never cared too much about these things before, but Megumi’s rejection is a particularly brutal beast, and Satoru is unfairly irritated, because beasts have always bowed down to him. This should be no exception. But it is, and his desperate attempts to change Megumi’s mind only serve to make things worse.
(A new set of crayons in a rainbow of sixty-four? Untouched. A nightlight in the shape of a spaceship, to keep the dark at bay? Unplugged. Ginger and yuzu soda? Gone flat. He’s had to start using Suguru as a middleman just to get him to accept the offerings – the Shinto priest at the Megumi shrine.)
But not even Suguru can convince Megumi to unpack his rucksack. It stays hidden at the bottom of the wardrobe, black, zip broken. Ready for running.
(The radical act of healing your inner child.)

Summary
“But he’s already seen me with Suguru!” Amanai says brightly. “Besides, I’m good with it.” She grins at Suguru, wrapping her arms around his bicep and fluttering her eyelashes at him. Suguru merely smiles politely at her. “You’d make a pretty good boyfriend.”
Something about this pisses Satoru off.
“That’s so unrealistic, why would Suguru date someone like this brat?” Satoru says, petulant, poking her in the cheek just to make her mad. She attempts to bite his finger off like a child.
Something in the air shifts and Suguru’s lips quirk into a teasing smirk. He goes from apprehensive to enthusiastic about the plan in less than five seconds and spares Satoru a knowing, mischievous glance.
"I’d love to be your boyfriend, Riko-chan.” He says in that fake, respectful tone of his, looking directly at Satoru.
Satoru seethes.
When Amanai is suspected to have a stalker, Suguru is forced into pretending to be her boyfriend to draw him out. Too bad he and Satoru are in the middle of a game of gay chicken, hoping the other one breaks first, using each other's jealousy against each other.
