Summary
New job, new truck, new fiancée... John Watson, former storm chaser, has settled into a comfortable new life.
There's only one problem: John's already married. And the the divorce papers he's been sending to his former partner, Sherlock Holmes, keep going missing. So with his fiancée Mary by his side, John reluctantly makes a trip to see him in the hopes of finalizing their divorce once and for all.
But John arrives in the midst of a very active storm season, and Sherlock very clearly hasn’t let go of the past. Against his better judgement, John finds himself talked into riding along after one last storm.

Thoroughly enjoyed, great writing, great angst. One of my favorite fics, now. Reminder that John and Sherlock don’t talk about everything at the end; no real closure of their misunderstanding at the Reichenbach Hall, John’s insecurity about being boring/Sherlock getting bored of him, or why Moriarty became such a big thing for their relationship in John’s mind— there’s just the promise of “they know they need to talk about stuff,” and we’re not shown those discussions (which would be DELICIOUS and would provide closure for the beautiful buildup of those tensions, which are never resolved).

"Wen Qing," says Wei Wuxian in a faux casual tone. "Do you think Lan Zhan likes Mianmian?"
"What?" Well Qing puts down the fork she was eating her rice with. "Why the hell would you think that?"
"Because," Wei Wuxian says, poking a knife into his apple. "He's always looking at her."
They both turn to look at Lan Zhan who is sitting at his table, innocently reading his biology textbook.

“It’s just—“ Wen Kexing takes a deep breath, “I never thought you would leave me behind like that. Abandon me, like old footprints.”
Zhou Zishu feels a lump in his throat that might be guilt. He sits there for a long time before speaking. “Well,” he says, and when the words finally come out they don’t sound accusatory, just resigned. A simple statement of the facts. “I never thought you would lie to me like that. So I guess we were both wrong.”
Wen Kexing's face goes unnaturally rigid—the way someone might look if they were trying very hard not to flinch.
Or, some things, once broken, aren’t so easily mended.
