    Summary

Six year old Geralt knew lots of things. He knew how to read better than Edim did, and Edim was eight. He knew how to chop vegetables without cutting off his fingers. And he knew he was going to die bloody.

But the sun sets every day and he doesn’t waste much time worrying about that either.

Or, Geralt of Rivia's slow and painstaking climb to find his self-worth.

    Summary

“Hello, Jaskier,” Geralt mutters to the ceiling. “How have you been? Despite what our parting may have implied, I hope you are doing well. I like your new song, even though it sounds incredibly inaccurate in most respects. Please tell me more about it, because I am interested in you, and not because I need the information to earn coin.”

    Yeah, that’ll go over fabulously.

Leaving behind the ruins of his life on the same mountaintop he brought them down upon, Geralt follows a trail of rumor and song to hunt a sea monster. Along the way, he finds Jaskier - and when he does, working together to hunt down the beast seems like as good a plan as any to communicate wordless apology. Unfortunately for both the contract and their relationship, the world sees fit to throw a bigoted alderman, a mourning prostitute, and a noblewoman's cheating husband into the works, thoroughly gumming up Geralt's attempts to get absolutely anything done.

    Summary

The goodbye pained Jaskier more than it pained Geralt, he knew. Even just a few brief months with him had been more exciting and adventurous and inspiring than all Jaskier’s years at the academy, and he was loath for it to end so soon. And it was an end, of course: Geralt barely tolerated him, and no doubt they would never see each other again.

Geralt and Jaskier go their separate ways for the winter every year - and it gets harder to say goodbye every time. Five times Jaskier looked back - and once that Geralt did.

    Summary

The witcher hums again. His hair is white as moonlight, Jaskier reflects. It’s quite pretty, actually. “I’d been told you’re a monster, you know. But in my experience, monsters don’t usually praise goddesses for not maiming their enemies.”

Jaskier swallows. “Is that what we are? Enemies?”

There’s another long pause. And then, “No. No, I don’t think we are.”

Jaskier can’t help it. He starts curling in on himself. “You’re a witcher though, aren’t you? You’re supposed to kill monsters.”

“And are you a monster?” comes the retort.

And to that, Jaskier can only answer honestly. “I don’t know.”

    Summary

In all the years that Jaskier has known Geralt, he's never known him to tolerate cities well, let alone actually enjoy them, which is why his sudden affinity for Novigrad is so vexing. Well, that and the reason for his newfound affinity: Triss Merigold.
