Later, Harry would wonder if Malfoy regretted that first, surprised mutter after three days of hard-pointed silence. Later, Harry would wonder about his own lack of regret over looking up when he heard Malfoy’s voice. But that would come after everything had already happened, the way events always seemed to, when even a Time-Turner couldn’t change things. The shape of a path, as Harry knew very well by then, once walked, was a lot like a paper crane — unfolded and pressed flat, you could try to fashion it into something different, but the original creases would always remain.

He finally gets a good look at Billy, though, and Billy sees it when it happens, when Steve recognizes him. Something in his expression crumples, a little, and then he’s on his feet.
Steve Harrington, Billy learns, as his world stays frozen, as the thunder booms, as he hears Rebecca’s worried little shriek from the other end of the bar, still can’t throw a very good punch.

Didn’t they?
“How do you know?” Thomas asks. He expects a crazy man’s answer, like 'where else would we be?' Like 'can’t you tell?' Like 'I belong to the maze — we all do.'
That’s not what Thomas gets though. Gally only says:
“You’ll know soon enough.”
___Somehow, Thomas and Gally are back in the Glade.
This time, not even Thomas can see a way out.

Summary
From what I understand, the human brain is basically an electrical meatball. A very sophisticated meatball, to be sure, but still – organic.
That organic human neural tissue – unless very carefully cultivated under very specific laboratory parameters – doesn’t always play nicely with the non-organic bits. And even then, see example: me.
That wasn’t even including the fact that Gurathin had received his augments in the Corporation Rim and company equipment – see again: me – wasn’t exactly premium quality.

Pretending the way Arthur looks at him, like he's searching for something, doesn't set him on fire. Pretending the ache in his chest is just fatigue, or hunger, or anything but what it is.
They cook together, and it's awkward, elbow-bumping, infuriatingly domestic. Arthur claims Merlin burns his meals on purpose. Merlin retaliates by enchanting the cupboard so that it opens only for him. Arthur threatens to ban magic "just in this kitchen".

All seven of them that were in the air are ushered to the carrier’s medical wing to be checked over; most of the attention is focused on Maverick, who’s trying to brush the doctors off, but Rooster can feel two sets of eyes on him. Phoenix is expected, the slight worry between her brows suggesting that she can tell he’s in pain despite his brave face. Unexpected is Hangman, who puts a gentle hand on Rooster’s back and looks at him with something akin to concern.
