Summary
When Red finally manages to blink the dark spots out of his eyes, he’s not sure how long he’s been unconscious for. His body seems to weigh ten tonnes as he heaves himself up into a sitting position, groaning weakly. Time moves sluggishly as he blinks around at his surroundings which he’s sure weren’t so… well, blue before.
He squints furiously trying to see further than the ice covering everything within a few feet of him and–
He pauses. Ice?
Rubbing frantically at his eyes, he realises said ice is really covering everything around him and Viridian Forest has transformed into an impromptu winter wonderland.

Summary
“Think of it this way,” father said, when he saw Damian’s confusion again. “Punishments and discipline are to make lessons stick, right?”
“I suppose,” Damian agreed tentatively. His grandfather wouldn’t say that. His grandfather would say what he always said: Pain is a god. Its rule is absolute. It shows us the way, it separates right from wrong, weak from strong.
It is grandfather's voice that wins out, later, when his skin splits under his own blade. Pain is a god. And he has been well-educated in all ways of worship.

Bookmarker's Notes
Bruce absorbs it like a champ. Maybe four kids in he really is getting better at this. Jason, not so much. “What punishments?”
Tim rubs his eyes before meeting Jason’s alarmingly green gaze. “We all know what kind of discipline the League favors.” This seems to finally break Bruce. He sits down heavily in the computer chair. Then he spins and begins typing rapidly at the keyboard. “What are you doing?” Tim asks. Jason seems to be at a loss for words.
“Checking to see if Talia’s had any contact with him,” Bruce growls.
Tim shakes his head grimly. “I didn’t get that impression, B. He talked about it like… like it was his responsibility. He said that he ‘strongly suspects’ it’s what his mother intended for him to do.”
Bruce’s fingers slow on the keys, Damian’s file pulled up alongside months of digital communication logs between the Manor and—everywhere, looks like. He props an elbow on the desk and sets his brow bone in his hand.
“Jesus,” Jason finally says. Tim can only agree.

Summary
Dick thinks maybe his life is over. Hey, he caught the bad guy and saved the day, didn’t he? Well, no, he didn’t. The vigilante he’d been mentoring killed the bad guy. And the day blew up. But it probably could’ve been worse. Point is, all his cases are closed, and he doesn’t have a job because it blew up and he doesn’t have a home because it blew up and he doesn’t have a brother because he blew up. No, that happened before. Jason’s back now. Right.
Bruce told him to take a break. So maybe that’s what he’s doing. He’s taking a break. He’s blinking, long and slow.

Bookmarker's Notes
Dick’s eyes narrow, like he’s examining the memory itself. He scrubs his face again. Shrugs. “I…” He’s quiet for a long moment, and the next time he speaks, he’s half-sobbing. “I’m pretty sure I said no?” He’s squeezing his hands together, digging his nails in. Jason instinctively scoots closer, but doesn’t touch him. “I can’t remember? You know,” he says suddenly, “B says there are two distinct neural pathways that run from auditory brain tissue to the same frontal-lobe paths that the visual system uses to distinguish what something is from where it is.”
Jason worries for a moment that Dick’s high isn’t as worn-off as he thought it was before he continues, “And like, visual information, music, speech, environmental noise, it’s all processed in parallel. Different parts of the brain, but in parallel. So you don’t lose any of it… If you remember what was going on in a scene of a movie, you also remember what song was playing. So, I think,” he catches his breath a little, “I think if I had said… something. Anything. I would remember it? I remember everything else.”
He curls in on himself, as if over an open wound.
