Tilda looked between all of them, then locked eyes with Guillermo before nodding. “Very well. You have thirty days. If in that time you can provide indisputable proof of the entire Hustler house’s disappearance and show us footage of the baron’s death, you will all walk free, but you must provide both pieces of evidence.”
“And if we cannot do that?” Nandor asked. “What happens then?”
“Then this council’s previous ruling from your trial stands as is,” she replied. “I’m sorry but if you cannot do that, then we cannot let you go.”

As if on cue, the doors to the library were flung open and in strode the Guide. She halted as soon as her eyes landed on Viago, who practically sprung to his feet and raced over to her. He took no notice of her downcast eyes or the way she hesitantly approached him.
“Well?” Viago eagerly asked, vibrating from nerves. His wait for news was finally over. “Is he back? I wanted to chat with him before we’ll have to fill out that report for Tilda.”
The Guide never met his eyes, choosing instead to stare at the spot around his neck where his cravat lay. Her voice was soft yet full of trepidation as she spoke. “You need to come with me, sir.”
