    Summary

Phainon had spent centuries mastering the art of not falling head-over-heels for the one person he could never escape: himself. Thanks to his mother Liriope’s quick thinking of stashing every reflective surface from Athens to the afterlife and slapping a silk blindfold over his eyes like some tragic fashion statement, he’d avoided the curse’s more embarrassing side effects.

    ---

“Phainon,” Mydei said softly. “Can I take your shades off?”

Phainon’s breath caught. He knew exactly where this was headed, but he tilted his head with feigned innocence.

“What’s the need for that?” he asked lightly, as if the answer weren’t written in the air between them. “They’re comfortable right where they are.”

Mydei couldnʼt help but chuckle. He didn’t pull his hand away. Instead, he brushed slowly over Phainon’s knuckles. “You’re really going to make me say it?”

Phainon hummed, turning his face more toward him. “I think I am. What do you think you’re going to do once they’re off?”
