Vriska coughs, glaring at Kanaya for blowing the dust right into her face. "Well?" She demands.
"'Well' what?" Kanaya counters, not even looking away from her translation notes.
"You know damn well, 'What!'" Vriska snaps, scanning the room again; as if in the last ten seconds the enemy had managed to infiltrate their weak, temporary base and she had any hope of protecting herself. "Is it the right book or not?! What does it say on the record-card?"
Kanaya is silent a few more minutes - then her body tenses and her eyes narrow. She holds up the card and reads it aloud:
"'The recovered Final Journal of the esteemed Professor Jake English, Master Hunter of the Unknown and respected member of the Arland community. He died to warn us - in the end, it just wasn't enough.'"

last read ch9, the non-astrophage (megafauna agrophage?) universe-hopping false-god has revealed itself to all four protagonists! VERY NOT FRIENDLY!!
meanwhile grace is having terrible austims when trying to communicate with simon and has started pulling into himself; theory is for self-loathing and guilt reasons, since a LOT of stuff JUST happened in ways that make most of them look like grace's fault, but only from grace's pov - everyone else is like "oh shit thats fucked up" but grace seems to be stuck on the "i did this..." phase of training this dragon
and then simon's over here giving us BEAUTIFUL AND ALMOST CERTAINLY UNINTENDED multiple-personality rep 😍😍😍😍 yes simon you DO AGREE with your system (astrophage merged to his brain by agroglobin? my theory anyway) it is making SO MUCH SENSE to you yessssss keep listening to them you DO want to maintain fleshbody functionality soooo bad look at these jingly keys i mean this cute scientist talking about how nice your hair is stick your whole ass in thE WATER CLIMB IN THE SINK-
i hope author isnt offended but when simon's system shuts up for grace i am absolutely imagining that short comic on tumblr where the "eel hivemind" is fucking with simon by repeating everything he's guilty of, calling him "convict" and "butcher", but then it gets interrupted by grace incidentally making simon's kokoro go dokidoki, and then the voices switch to "simon new objective: bag this hottie" and "grace is so cute we love grace" and "SIMON DO NOT FUMBLE THIS!!" while simon is head-in-hands like "how the fuck is this both better but also worse than telling me to kill myself" 🤭🤭🤭
