A heat coils inside of his chest, something he'd now dare to name as hope. "How obvious?"
She takes a peek through the window, a smile on her face. "Let's just say the, uh, snowball became an avalanche."

“Bad dream?” Mike asks, careful not to disturb their sleeping beauty. He knows the answer is yes. Will doesn’t stare at their daughter while she sleeps on a good night. He should know, he does the same on his bad nights.
“Yeah,” Will responds just as quietly. “Not that horrible,” he adds, “I just wanted to make sure.” He doesn’t need to finish his sentence, Mike understands. Mike’s had plenty of nights where his mind has painted horrid images. Images that turn fears into reality, and Mike has to ensure his family is safe. That he can protect them from those dark invasions.
