Summary
After escaping from that hellish train, Gideon managed to find himself in yet another cage. This one being that of an underground fighting ring that offers protection (and more importantly booze). Trapped in the cycle of constantly having to take a punch with little offered pay, Gideon finds a bit of relief from his dazed life of bruises and alcohol poisoning from a certain alligator-folk in search for a new bodyguard.

Summary
Jason closed the door behind him, listening for the automatic lock behind him. It was unlikely anyone else would break in tonight, but he hated to leave her. Tomorrow. He would find somewhere better for her tomorrow, and somehow convince her that she was the one who wanted to go.
OR
When Jason temporarily takes in a homeless preteen, his family has some opinions. And even if he agrees, they can shut up about it.

Summary
"“Please. I just want to go home. I won’t tell anyone… I promise. You can let me go and I won’t say a word"
A scream that should have blown the speaker apart cut off the last syllable, and Jason pressed the power button. But the screams didn’t stop because they were happening in real time. There was someone, still alive, close enough for him to reach them before it was too late.
The splashing almost drowned out the screams as his boots churned up stagnant water and he moved forward almost blindly. The screams turned into hysterical sobs, and Jason thought: Hang on, please hang on.
And then the laughter drowned out everything else."

Summary
Jason Todd is obeying the rules. He keeps the family updated on his open files. He backs up the other heroes when called. He keeps his coms open and his trackers on. And most importantly, he doesn't kill inside Gotham's city limits. It's not even that he's bending his morals just to get along with the other Bats. Though that's a nice bonus. Jason is genuinely trying to heal and slaughtering criminals, as often as he's tempted, is generally not something a healthy young adult does.
But some cases are enough to push Jason over the edge.
When Jason takes on the protection of an abused woman who's hired Bloodsport to kill her mob-affiliated ex, he knows he's going to be in direct conflict with Batman, who's trying to bring the woman in for conspiracy to commit murder. Cut off from the bats, allied with Robert Dubois, and fending off the Falcones, Jason is willing to give up everything to protect the hurting family. Even if that means breaking everything he's worked so hard to build.

Summary
Gordon considered himself a calm man.
He was on board when a man dressed up as a bat started showing up on his crime-ridden streets.
He kept an open mind when the same man began dressing up little kids like birds and throwing them at psychotic maniacs.
He kept his cool when Batman asked to pardon the murderous, red-helmeted ‘vigilante’ who blew up countless warehouses and served as judge, jury, and executioner.
He even managed to keep a straight face when that same criminal showed up at the Batsignal; he still pulled a gun on him, of course, but he held his fire, for now.
“Red Hood,” He greeted with a sour frown.
The helmeted figure turned to face him, waving as he did so. “Hey there, Commish.”
OR
Red Hood is the only bat left in town to take on Gordon's missions. Gordon is, unsurprisingly, not happy. However, Jim is forced to push his feelings aside so he can get shit done. Maybe after a while, they'll learn to do more than just deal with one another, especially when Gordon learns that the gun-wielding murderer he sees now used to be a joking fifteen-year-old Gordon enjoyed the company of. That was... Until the second Robin died.
