Summary
On Halloween night, Leonard Hofstadter is ready for a fun costume party at the comic book store with Penny, Sheldon, and Amy. Instead, one careless step on Sheldon’s research papers leaves Leonard with a badly sprained knee, a brace and weeks of frustration. Sheldon’s initial defensiveness turns into overwhelming guilt and then into an intensely irritating campaign of hyper-attentive care.The friends navigating injury, marriage, and the complicated ways they show love best. They missed the Halloween party entirely and none of them knew, not one of them, that it had been the last holiday they would spend altogether alive. Not because Halloween was important because it wasn’t but later, after everything, Amy would remember Leonard falling over scattered research and Penny swearing and Sheldon apologizing in a cape and she would understand that grief did not preserve only the grand meaningful moments. It also reached back for the stupid ones. The interrupted ones. The evenings that had seemed too ordinary to count. Those were often the ones that hurt the most because they had not known enough to pay attention.
