“Yes.” Jack is nodding, smiling, all gap-toothed and kindergarten positivity.
“And the only parts of us the Empty would see are whatever dead leaves the angels and demons left in our gutters?” Dean raises his eyebrows.
“Exactly.”
He lets out a low whistle. There’s a living warmth finally coming back into his complexion. Not done yet, Winchester, still one more rescue mission. “It’s gotta be me. I’m going.”

Castiel doesn’t mind working security duty; he was briefed shortly after the initial salvation of the Sword from the pit, and again before taking up his position. He knows what to do. However, it’s easy to forget that the green room isn’t real. Time moves differently there, the space ever-changing to make a prison of mountains, cathedrals, salt flats, orchards, and whatever Castiel was led to believe about Heaven’s greatest weapon—Dean Winchester is something entirely unexpected.

Logan hears a car alarm blare after the crash.
He glances over to see a young man, barely twenty, hurriedly pulling a T-shirt over his torso, trying to be discreet. "I'll be right out, sir. I know the way," he says to Logan, avoiding eye contact. Good for him. "I'm sorry," he mutters, picking up his phone from the mattress. "Really sorry, sir."

It was bad enough that father had always seen teaching Shouto barbarian customs as beneath his hopes and dreams of unifying the lands into one kingdom, and when Katsuki first pressed a hand-carved necklace into his hands with a muttered the nerd helped Shouto just said oh, thank you and started wearing it in public fully unaware he was very loudly telling the world he was engaged, claimed, and then three weeks later Izuku had to hold back a red-faced Katsuki by the cape while he yelled about mixed signals and fuckin’ make up your mind, we like you approximately three centimeters away from Shouto’s face.
It was, in short, a bit of a journey.
