Summary
People think grief is a storm. For Pearl, it was fog.
Thick, silent fog that made her forget what the sun looked like.
After a devastating loss, Pearl drifts through her days feeling detached from everything and everyone.The only thing that cuts through the fog is a scruffy rescue dog named Tilly, who seems to understand sadness better than people do. Through late-night walks and quiet moments with Tilly, Pearl slowly begins to reconnect with the world.
Then there's Gem.
Gem. Their friendship starts with awkward conversations and gentle check-ins, but gradually grows into something deeper. As feelings develop, Pearl faces a difficult question: Is it okay to keep loving and living when someone important could leave you again?

They ran. Phantom pains shot through her ankle when she prepa- no, not phantom. The wolf shrunk its teeth deeper and Cleo just, just, managed not to fall. She half turned around for a desperate swing with her sword at the beast, when it released her.
Cleo wasn’t left wondering why; They had no time to register their red-hooded assailant before the axe head buried in their shoulder and Cleo fell.
Even stilled, her killer looked manic against the sky. Surrounded by wolves, her billowing scarlet cloak, the diamond axe now tainted with their black blood and, most terrifying, the wide teeth-filled grin and her red-crazed eyes. (Was that a flash of purple?)
Cleo’s last thought before she hit the ground with a loud crack was that she didn’t recognise the woman at all.
Or
Double Life ends and everyone remembers. They might've enjoyed that if Pearl wasn't yet to come back.
Then, a week later, she does. Her lifeless body, at least.
Scott blames himself, Grian is angry, Gem wishes she could solve all of her problems with her sword and Pearl? Pearl is dead. What do you want from her?

Summary
Pearl sat on a random roof in sector 23, which she wasn't even supposed to patrol, on the verge of passing out from exhaustion. She only snapped back to attention when she heard a familiar voice behind her.
“Didn't expect to see you tonight, Crescent,” said the voice from behind her.
Pearl turned around to see a face half covered with a mask with teeth painted on. The person was wearing a white tank top and purple baggy pants, contrasting bright orange hair done in two braids.
“Amethyst,” Pearl mumbled, grumpy because the villain showed up and she actually had to do something “What do you want.”

Pearls a hero, who works for the night corps to deal with the bigger villains.
But once she realizes who the night corps really are, and that someone close to her might not be who they seem, she starts to question everything shes known.
