The thing is, Rodney’s read John’s entire personnel file, the unredacted one that doesn’t have thirteen pages of continuous blacked out text, and so he knows that what Edreim is insisting on will have a far greater impact than the spirit with which it is intended. It’ll be like hammering a nail with a wrecking ball; liable to break down the whole house. Not only will John never make that kind of verbal faux pas again, there’s also a chance he might stop speaking altogether.

“John, I know you’re angry and I appreciate that what happened downstairs feels like a Very Big Deal, but both the bigotry and the ignorance are old hat for me. I’m really tired and I just want to go to sleep. Whatever parts of tonight still feel important to you tomorrow, I promise we can talk about them then.”
Christ, Rodney really is exhausted. He's slurring his words and struggling to keep his eyes open. Some Sentinel John is, failing to take note of his Guide's physical needs.
“Sure, buddy,” he says. “Wanna be the big spoon or the little spoon?”
“How about the silver spoon?” jokes Rodney, and just like that things are, if not back to how they should be, at least heading in the right direction.
