There's something wrong with Villanelle.
Don't get Eve wrong, there's a lot of things that are wrong with Villanelle. But most of her shortcomings were visible and understandable. Eve knew this from their very first meeting in the woods, when an assassin pressed a gun under her own chin with a wide, open mouth smile. But there was always something else, something elusive. Something that Eve, as an Omega, felt but could not identify. That was until the realization suddenly came to her mind.

I didn’t like the look on his face. Until now, his expression was light and friendly. Now his eyes were glassy and empty. Like a dead fish's eyes. His lips turned into a tight line.
Then, he sighed and spoke in an even voice.

I felt a knot forming in my throat. He reached out and patted me on the shoulder. His last words, before he turned away and finally left me alone, made my stomach flip.

“You will die by fire,” The Devil announces.
“Is that a threat or prophecy?” It makes a big difference.
The Devil purses her lips. “The latter. It could be both, though. If I burn you alive here and now, it would be both. Because I would have correctly foreseen your death.”
Eve resists the urge to argue semantics. It is unwise to spend too long arguing with the Devil, lest she grow bored and look for a way to entertain herself. Instead, she asks the far more important question. “Are you going to do that?”

Villanelle shakes her head. “This is revenge. You stabbed me.”
“Once or twice is revenge. As many as five times, maybe. This has gone waaaay past that, into some psychosexual shit. I’m in your head, baby.” She’s still as Villanelle loops the garrote around her neck, then leans back toward her. Her hair tickles Villanelle’s cheek and there is the faintest possibility that her head could touch Villanelle’s shoulder.
Villanelle makes sure to strangle her before that can happen.
