Summary
He always imagined a daughter. She would have his father’s white hair and milky blue eyes, but she would have Morgan’s face; maybe she would have Vergil’s frown; maybe she would have Morgan’s sly little smile.
Nonsensically, he hoped she was taller than he was; she would get crap for it, but maybe that meant that immature men who couldn’t see the power in her frame wouldn’t attempt to use her. He hoped she was shorter than he was; that when she came to him scared for comfort, she would fit perfectly in his arms and be reassured.
Occasionally he entertained himself between fits of torture by attempting to name her. Maybe Antigone, who guided her blind father until his death. Maybe something honoring Kundalakesi, who killed her husband who tried to kill her. Or maybe Hel, or something like it, who will bring the end of the world.
Vergil never once imagined he would have a son.

Freo kept his keycard in the left outer pocket of whatever bag he was carrying. This was the kind of thing you learned when you paid attention, and Kaelix paid very close attention. He'd watched him use it — the practiced reach, no fumbling, always the same pocket — and had spent some time considering the logistics before arriving at what he felt was the most elegant available option.
He was not going to steal it. That would be noticed immediately. He was going to borrow it for approximately forty minutes on a morning when Freo was using the building's gym, which was on the third floor and which he visited on Tuesdays and Thursdays between seven and eight, which Kaelix knew because he had been paying attention.

He pierced Dante with a sharp, contemptuous gaze that seemed to dismiss the very notion. “Absolutely not, Dante,” he retorted, his voice dripping with irritation. “I will not engage in such a ridiculous charade,” he spat.Vergil may be a master at many forms of battle, but fatherhood? That's one conflict he still needs to figure out. Dante proposes an unconventional solution when Nero's birthday approaches: a good old-fashioned twin switch.
