"Is there something going on between you two?" Killua prodded.
Their lips press together in a thin line. "It's complicated."
"That's a bull shit answer and you know it."
"We aren't romantically involved," they clarified.
He nodded, watching out of the corner of his eye. "Do you want to be?”
"That's the complicated part." They lifted their cup, pressing the warm ceramic against their temple.
“But you need him.”
They didn’t answer, at least not in words. Their mouth twisted into a bitter smile, and a single tear slid off their cheek, landing in their tea with a plip.Or five times Leorio and Kurapika hooked up and how it affected their relationship.

Summary
It's been five years of seeing each other once a year at Leorio's New Year Party, five years of the mostly emails and birthday cards, five years of unlearning each other and growing distant. Until a surprise attack pulls them back into each other's orbit. Gon and Killua try to stay connected while everything around them keeps getting more dangerous and complicated. There are messy reunions, surprise attacks, secret safehouses, and a lot of late-night talking and emotional almost-confessions. Killua is doing everything he can to keep Alluka safe, Gon is dealing with losing his Nen and a ton of leftover trauma, and they both lean on each other way more than they want to admit.
