Summary
Kris finds Berdly interesting. Just as they do for every other monster. Theres nothing more to it. Maybe an extra visit on Wikipedia, sure, but never anything more. Especially not multiple days worth of birdwatching. But of course, a stupid blue feather ended up wrecking those plans.
OR
Kris dives too deep into bird culture. Finding out something that not even themself OR Berdly were quite ready to admit.

Summary
You pat the bread loaf that remains on the counter, undoing the little plastic tie and setting it aside. Sliding one of the end pieces further into the bag, you collect about half of the loaf, a solid seven slices, then balance them on your hand, holding the bread stack out for Susie to examine.
“Could be taller,” Susie tells you.
You add three more slices, then a fourth.
“Bread,” Susie supplies. You nod, then add a twelfth piece to the stack… and then just one more for a clean baker’s dozen. You’ve used practically the whole loaf by this point, leaving only the end pieces and a few of the more rounded slices on either end. The entire kitchen smells of artificial white bread. It’s the stuff Asriel used to love to use in PB&J sandwiches, that sticks to the roof of your mouth and doesn’t taste like much but wheat and a little bit of saltiness. You show the stack to Susie again, and when she gives you a thumbs up, carefully refasten the bread bag with one hand.
“Think you could bite it?” you prompt.

Summary
“...It’s loud,” is what Susie finally settles on, in lieu of any of that. Kris’ eye disappears back beneath their fringe, but they nod, finally drawing their hands from their pockets. Susie takes in a deep breath, then lets it out. “Well, no point in standing around out here while it’s raining, huh? You wanna find somewhere to set up camp for the night?”
Reliably, Kris doesn’t have much reaction to the suggestion. They tilt their head slowly, lips pressed together in what comes across to Susie as a more thoughtful look than anything. She breathes out, again. It’s easier not to dwell on her thoughts while they’re right here in front of her… Even if Susie had sort of needed the space to clear her head, she’s more relieved than anything to see them. And maybe a little relieved, too, that they seem so unhappy about this—even if Susie shouldn’t be glad that they’re also disappointed, it—well, it makes her feel a little less alone. Kris has a way of doing that.
With a soft hum, Kris moves past Susie and starts walking, mind clearly made up.
---
With Toriel and Sans making so much noise in the living room, Susie and Kris return to their castle town to sleep.

Summary
The crumbling sand is liquid beneath his feet, and he cuts through the dunes like they are nothing but mist.
He stops before a basket.
It is so small and fragile, he could crush it easily with a careless step. Its orange fur is mottled beige and dusty from the desert’s rough touch.
“Mew?”
Death sinks down to his haunches with a sigh.
“Now, how did you end up all the way out here, pequeño?”
/
Death had met the infamous Puss in Boots years before he was even named.

Summary
“Lobo,” he swallows, clenching his paws once before relaxing them in the cuffs. “Can you answer me one thing then?”
Death’s red gaze flickers down at him, “you don’t seem to be in a position to make demands.”
Puss musters enough strength to shrug, the chains jangling weakly. He tries to smile, but he knows it looks withered and tired.
“Humor a dying gato, por favor?”
/
Puss finds that his ninth life might be coming to an abrupt end at the hands of a madman.
Death is here to witness the outcome.
