Chief of Police Charlie Swan is too old for this mess. Too old and too sick of this shit to pretend Forks is just a sleepy old rural town anymore. Between the gruesome corpses and the quiet, unsettling doctor Cullen who shows up like a statue in pressed slacks, lying through his teeth, Charlie’s got more questions than answers—and no one seems too keen on giving him either.
Charlie’s trying not to notice how his breath catches when the doc gets too close. He’s also trying not to notice how the bodies keep piling up, unsolved. Neither effort is going particularly well.
And if one more person tells him it was a bear, he’s going to shoot something. Probably not a bear.

GENUINELY SUCH A PEAK BOOK. THE MOST ACCURATE I HAVE SEEN CARLISLE AND CHARLIE IN A LONG TIME AND IT IS MY FAVOURITE. I don't think I will ever be able to part with this book.

This was so unbelievably peak. I love the way that it strays from the usual Simon already drowning in blood and how that changes the story in itself. Their issues are addressed well, and the way their relationship develops is beautiful. 10/10.

Meanwhile, Matt seems to be avoiding him following letting slip his feelings in a moment of worry.
