He forces his eyes open, expecting to squint into light, but all he finds is more darkness, a shade above pitch black, the kind of inky dark that feels like it has depth, feels like it might just swallow him whole, carnivorous in its shadows.
Maybe it already had.
Maybe that’s why he can’t remember.
