Summary
It would be so much easier for Eugene to just run away forever. He could do it, find a nice woman and settle down, force himself to forget. But he wakes up in the morning with shadowy hands on him. He looks in the mirror and sees a desperate expression reflected back at him. He goes to bed at dawn, hiding from the exposing rays of sunlight calling him a coward.
Eventually, he finds his way to Lee's door.

Summary
Javert has heard people tell him that he's very dedicated to his life in the church. More blunt people have told him he's simpleminded. He believes neither--God has saved him, protects him. It is all he knows. It doesn't matter that there is a humble baker in town named Jean Valjean who is too nice for his own good. God will save Javert from temptation, he knows. It doesn't matter that Valjean has started showing up in his waking hours. And it especially doesn't matter that Valjean has started showing up in his dreams. God will not abandon Javert. Right? Right.
Javert contends with duty, worship, and his shameful desire for love.

Sometimes I forget that his hands are just his hands, even if they move flicker-fast on guitar strings, even if they, for some reason, tremble and reach up to my face.

He didn’t mind so much, though, if he was considered Dally’s pet. That was something entirely different, a role he could take on like slipping Dally’s butter-soft leather jacket over his head. Dally could take care of him, dab antiseptic at oozing cuts, tut at him like a worried mother, and it was fine, it was good, it wasn’t even frowned upon because he was simply a traumatized pet, the runt of the litter that just needed a pair of kind hands. He didn’t mind being seen as Dally’s because he was, even if Dally didn’t realize.
Johnny's pov. A relationship, or maybe not. Half-doomed and semi-sweet.
