Summary

“Wei Ying?” Lan Zhan asks.
He gives him a grim smile. “Looks like you’re finally getting your wish, Lan Zhan.”
Lan Zhan stares back at him, expression blank.
“I’m coming to Gusu with you.”
Or: Lan Wangji gets hit with a curse that requires Wei Wuxian to stay in close proximity at all times. Everything only gets more complicated from there.

Lan Wangji did not know how to conceal his interest, so he did not. He was sure that Wei-gongzi knew, his cheeks flushing, words stumbling whenever he caught the intensity of Lan Wangji's gaze.
Lan Wangji meets Yunmeng Jiang's Wei-gongzi during a nighthunt. Even if he had no interest in the cultivation competitions, Lan Wangji should have met Wei-gongzi during Gusu Lan's guest lectures earlier, or at least heard of his capabilities. The both of them travel together for a month, and Lan Wangji becomes sure that the kind, brave, and intelligent Wei Ze is his life's cultivation partner. -

Lan Wangji goes into a fevered rut and accidentally bonds with Wei Wuxian. When they next meet, he remembers none of it, and Wei Wuxian is determined to keep the bond a secret—even when he's sent to the Cloud Recesses to be a consort in Lan Wangji's harem.

Many things have changed since their time in boarding school (Lan Zhan is out of the closet, arranges charcuterie boards, stocks a fine bar…), but their friendship slots right back into place like no time has passed. Wei Ying is a little perplexed by the fact that Lan Zhan apparently doesn't have any interest in dating anyone despite being an obvious catch—but hey, at least that means he doesn't have to fight anyone for Lan Zhan's time and attention. And besides, it's not like Wei Ying is in any big rush to find himself a girlfriend either. It’s all working out great!

AU. Lan Wangji has lived his entire adult life to date as a Gusu Lan hostage in Lanling. He would like to have agency over the course of his life at some point. To be able to make choices based on his own desires rather than on those of others with more power. To feel like choices he makes could have weight on the outcome of events.
It is quite ironic that when agency is returned to him, it is as a result of being kidnapped by a (faux) princess and threatened with his brother’s life and given to a man he doesn’t know who will very much expect him to obey.

“You are going home,” Yanli reaches over and tucks his hair behind his ear, giving him a tiny smile. “Don’t worry. Just a few more scans, and then Lan Zhan can take you back."
“Who’s Lan Zhan?” he asks.
The pretty man by his side inhales so sharply Wei Ying feels the air get sucked out of the room.

Summary
Alerted by Wen Zhuliu to the mess his son has made of the indoctrination camp, Wen Ruohan realises that war may come to his doorstep sooner than he's ready. By reacting quickly, the cultivators escaping from the Xuanwu's cave are recaptured to be used as hostages in earnest.
Trapped inside the cave, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji can only listen to the devastation, knowing no rescue is coming.
