The smell of petrichor was usually one of comfort, as was the steady cadence of water droplets falling upon cobblestone, wooden roofs, and the mud that flooded his boots. However, tinged with the astringent smell of iron that had come to rest on his tongue, more bitter and repulsive than a taste he was so familiar with had any right or reason to be, it was anything but.
Though the downpour may have been scrubbing away the stains of such a gruesome scuffle, the blood would always remain, even if only in his mind and memory.
