She does come to dinner nearly an hour later, dried tears shining on her cheeks. She sits silently at the table and waits for Kai to put a plate in front of her. He doesn’t ask again what’s wrong, sitting down to eat his own food.
“It’s the daddy daughter dance,” she finally sniffs, wiping her nose on the back of her hand. “At school.” Kai stills. “All the girls in school have someone to bring them, ‘cept me.”
“I’ll take you,” says Kai, on reflex. Her head shakes.

Summary
This is a prologue fanfic for the main story-line of the Amazing Digital Circus, and follows the adventures of Scratch, Kinger and the C&A team from the moment they first set foot in the Circus. This story features heavy character development and characterization for a cast that mostly had zero dialogue and 1 second of screen-time. So there's a ton of theorizing about what these characters could have been like.
Join Scratch and his fellow programmers as they enter a whimsical world of wonders where anything can happen, with their new best friend, Caine! Will they find friendship? Hope? The man took a step back, his eyebrows rising. Or, at least, that was how it felt. Something urged him to look down at himself, noticing his hands. One… two… three… four?! He counted again. One, two, three… No. It could not be. He did not even get a chance to process the lack of two fingers when he heard a quiet pop next to him, then a voice. Loud and charismatic:
“Welcome to the Amazing Digital Circus. My name is Caine, and I’m your ringmaster. Are you ready to see something incredible?”
The man turned to face the source of the sound, his eyes meeting something he could not comprehend at first. Someone. Or something. No, definitely someone. A creature even more peculiar than any of the others he has already encountered. It had a human-like body from the neck down, however its head was replaced by a set of teeth with eyes set within the imitation of a mouth. And what did the creature call itself? Caine? Like the original project?
“What is this place? Who are you? Where’s A.B.E.L.?”
