“What?” Chopper’s eyes shine. “Sanji, you don’t think they belong together? They act like soulmates!”
“Chopper,” Sanji pats his head. “They can’t be soulmates. Not when the marimo has the emotional range of a sea slug.”
The bickering continues. Nami takes a sip of her drink, lips curling in amusement. They really are naive. And Nami can’t help but take advantage of the naive: especially when there’s beli to be made.
“I think we should make this interesting,” Nami announces. “Since you guys can’t agree, let’s have a friendly bet. Everyone puts in and whoever’s right gets the pot.” All of them glance around at each other before back at Nami. She smiles at them. “If you’re going to fight about it, at least make it interesting.”(or, Luffy and Zoro have been married for years. But, with all that beli on the line, Nami isn't about to tell the rest of their nakama that)

Summary
Luffy has a strange definition of a "first mate".
Apparently, the rubber man thinks that to choose a first mate is to choose someone as your spouse. The revelation throws Zoro off, but ultimately he goes along with it. After all, he'd already dedicated himself to this new crew and the boy who declared himself pirate king. Might as well go the full mile and become his husband too. So he becomes Zoro, the First Mate and Luffy's husband. It feels so obvious.
Unfortunately, both Captain and First Mate neglect to inform the rest of their merry crew exactly what being "first mate" means. When the couple finally reunites after 2 long years apart, they shock the rest of their crew members with their... enthusiastic greeting.

“Nothing,” Nami said but watched as Luffy splashed at Zoro and got an annoyed huff but no further retaliation. “Luffy and Zoro have a special bond, don’t they?”
“Indeed. First mate and captain.” Robin agreed. She watched the scene with a fond smile. Luffy pulled Zoro close by his neck and tried to goad the man into the little pool with him. Zoro said something Nami couldn’t hear, but it made Luffy erupt with laughter. “Sometimes they act like lovers.”
Nami watched as Zoro smiled at Luffy as though he was the only thing on the world and felt like everything clicked into place.

Zoro tried not to react to the whisper-shout coming from his right and kept stoically watching the arms move forward on the clock.
”Pssssst!”
The tip of a shoe lightly tapped against his shin. Groaning inwardly, he turned his head, facing the dark eyes again. This time they were accompanied by a huge, toothy grin.
”What?”, he asked sharply.
”You’re Roronoa Zoro.” A statement, not a question, and whispered just as excitedly as the ‘psst’ had been.
”I know who I am”, Zoro retorted dryly, turning back forward. An outstretched hand entered his peripheral vision, a clear offer for a handshake. He ignored it.
”I’m Monkey D. Luffy.”Or: While he’s stuck in detention, a new fellow student of Zoro’s enters the classroom with the intention to help him break free.

After Luffy is crowned as the King of the Pirates, the Straw Hats land on a random island. On the island is a nobleman who kidnaps Luffy, wanting to make her his wife. He believes that no one can stop him, because he foolishly believes that Luffy’s crew are the only ones who would try to rescue her. What he doesn’t know is how many people are gunning for his head the moment the news of Luffy’s kidnapping is published. But the one who makes it through the nobleman’s defenses is the last person anyone would expect, and also the last person anyone who threatens Monkey D. Luffy wishes to face.
