"It’s a light cigarette," you reminded him, tilting your head back to blow a stream of smoke up into the dark sky, a soft laugh escaping you. "It’s supposed to be smooth. Not everyone wants to burn their throat out with tar like Price."
"Mm. Clearly," Simon murmured. His eyes were fixed on you, tracking the way the dim light caught the line of your collarbone under your oversized t-shirt, the easy curve of your smile, and the relaxed, confident way you held his gaze. He took another slow drag, the smoke curling around his sharp jaw before disappearing into the breeze. "Though, I suppose it has one advantage."
"Oh yeah? And what's that?"
"Doesn't ruin the taste," he whispered. His deep rasp dipped into a register so low and intimate it made your stomach do a sudden, dizzying flip. He leaned down slightly, his mouth just inches from your ear, his voice a rough promise in the warm dark. "If I decide to kiss you later, I won't feel like I'm licking an ashtray."

Despite his rough and cold exterior, the 'eldest' son of The Dark Knight Sparda, a man with great demonic prowess, Vergil, was always different around you. He listened, accompanied you as you worked away as the resident gunsmith of Devil May Cry like some sort of benevolent shadow, and showed you a gentleness that many have never seen. It felt invigorating to be noticed by such a man, one who would break the world in half for you.
That wouldn't be a bad thing, right? Surely he wouldn't actually cause such chaos for you?

“What is this?” the man’s voice rumbled, muffled behind his mask. “You are…not what I expected to catch today.” He crouched and cupped your cheek reverently, as if you were a tiny creature whose delicate bones would snap at a too-rough touch.
You flinched at first — but he was warm, so warm.
“You are very far from home, aren’t you, Kleines Häschen?” he mused, honeyed words drawn out slowly as you relaxed into his palm. “Come, let me tend to your wound. Rest by my fire, just for a little while.”
The man scooped you up from the snow, unresisting. Sleep whispered sweet temptation as you were cradled to his chest, lulled by the blood loss and his steady steps. You gave in to the beckoning darkness, and allowed your heavy lids to close, like he said—
just for a little while.
