Summary
Tim’s spleen wasn't the only thing he had lost in the desert that night.
The Widower left him with an injury that had forever altered his life, but Tim had adjusted. He was fine, great even. His only worry was how his family would react when he eventually found Bruce and went back to Gotham.
But to his surprise (and relief), they never even mentioned it. They carried on as if everything was normal, and that's what Tim had wanted. At least, he thought it was.
Until an incident in the field reveals a secret Tim didn't even know was a secret, and now he is forced to deal with all the emotional blowback he thought he had avoided.

Tim loses a leg in the desert. He really thought his family had noticed.

“I just wanted to be loved,” Tim chokes out.
The world stops.
His family freezes in horror.
Tim’s eyes burn, tears slipping sideways into his hair.
“Was that too much to ask for?”
No one answers.

Across the table, Jason stiffens. His expression flickers between apprehension and confusion as he slowly turns to Damian.
“Catherine Jones is my mother.” His voice is carefully measured, but there’s an unmistakable edge beneath it. His eyes narrow. “Why the hell are you asking about her?”
Tim barely hears him. The words ring in his ears, each syllable slicing through him.
Catherine Jones.
The twitch in his face is barely noticeable, but Tim still feels the sharp pull of it.

The FBI pays a couple thousand for a small cache of info. Tim leaves out anything incriminating, anything that could lead them to the Bats identities. He's gotten off scott free, until now.
