Summary
Mike can hear the smile in Will's voice when he picks up, and it’s startling how easily he can imagine it.Will, leaning against the wall of his new house. Probably wearing bright colours and flip flops- or whatever it is that Max keeps assuring him everyone in California wears. He knows the exact angles at which Will’s smile tilts, different depending on whether he’s teasing or just excited.
Closing his eyes, Mike tries to remember the angle of El’s smile.
He can't. It troubles him enough to ruin everything.
“Is El there?” he asks. When Will responds, there is no longer a smile in his voice.
Only a couple of Mike's calls to Lenora actually go through, and he never says quite what he means.
Until he does.

Peter's voice whittles down to a high pitched whistle, forgetting that he needs to breathe to continue creating more sound.
After a few more agonizing seconds during which Peter weighs the possibilities that he just gave his mentor and the savior of the world a heart attack, Mr. Stark looks up at him, eyes suddenly wide.
A beat passes.
"What's your teacher's name again?"
AKA, Ryland Grace and Tony Stark hooked up in college. This is fine, until 20 years later, Peter Parker gets involved. It's all downhill from there.

Summary
It's summer in Hawkins. It has been a year since the possession, and Will Byers is doing his best to navigate through change. While everyone else seems busy falling in love, he forces a smile, desperately trying to be normal. He tries to keep up with his friends, holding onto the childhood they seem eager to leave behind. He swallows his frustrations, hiding the fear that never really left. His walls crumbling, and as he desperately tries to keep them standing, the Mind Flayer returns.
But despite everything, a boy—confident, athletic, and surprisingly nerdy—suddenly comes into his life. Chance Lawson inadvertently becomes Will’s friend, joining the Party (?), changing the course of his fate. He carries an easy confidence, but beneath it lies a cautious, sympathetic heart that understands Will’s silence. Will forced himself to stop thinking. The Upside Down was closed for good. Eleven had close the gate last year and saved them all. His mother, Jonathan and Nancy had taken the Mind Flayer out of him. There was nothing more connecting him to that place. He was clean. Purged. And those stupid chills he got from time to time in the back of his neck were just his brain messing up with him. It was him not being able to move on from what happened in the past. It was him not being able to grow the fuck up already.
Dustin clapped his hands, the sound echoing in the calm night, making Will snapped out of his thoughts. “We can become heroes, Will. Honest to God American heroes. Like freaking Red dawn or something.”

Mike hasn't had Will's blood ever since.
It felt strange at first—like not being allowed to eat the birthday cake before the guests arrive. Something temporary.
Until Troy pushed Will to the ground and Mike spent the entire third period in the infirmary biting the inside of his cheek, tasting his own blood to avoid thinking about Will's O negative while the school nurse patiently picked gravel out of Will's palms with tweezers.
It feels a bit bigger than cake after that.
Maybe because the candles have already been blown out, and he still can't have it.

Mike cuts him off, grabbing both of Will's arms in a near-bruising grip. Will is shorter than him, so he has to lean down a little to stare into his eyes. He hopes he's not crying. He can't tell anymore. Everythings too loud, he's too hungry to think straight.
"Thank you," Mike says hoarsely, fiercely. Making sure Will knows he means it. "I swear, I'll pay you back one day. I swear it."
Or
Mike is a monster, and Will is a normie. They’re from different worlds but somehow end up in the same one.

This time, it was Mike whose features tugged into a frown, his other hand situating itself on Will's free cheek as he shook his head. "Don't. Don't be. Will, hey, look at me, baby. You have nothing to be sorry for, okay? Nothing at all."
Will stared into Mike's imploring eyes and chose, for once, not to believe him.

Mike knows he looks stupid, unable to control the way his eyebrows furrow and his lips curl in complete confusion. Then his roommate rolls his eyes and makes a gesture like he’s cracking a whip, complete with sound effect. His cheeks heat up, the realization suddenly dawning on him.
He thinks Mike was on the phone to his girlfriend.
He thinks Mike has a girlfriend.
He thinks that Will is Mike’s girlfriend.
Everyone at college thinks Mike has a girlfriend. There's just one problem. The 'girlfriend' in question is Will Byers. Mike's best friend. Platonic with a capital P. He's so screwed.

There was a time when being around these people would have felt overwhelming, but in a good way. There was a time when being around Mike Wheeler, just being in the same room as him, would have been utter bliss and comfort.

Summary
At twenty-two, Mike’s life is far better than he ever thought it would be. He graduated from The University of Chicago in May, after getting his diploma in English, and his entire future being at his fingertips (something he always thought he would be terrified of) feels almost exhilarating.
He loves his apartment back in Chicago and it’s horrible winters, he loves his shitty car that’s dented to hell and back. He loves sitting at his typewriter as novel ideas flow from his fingertips. He loves that he finally did it, he escaped Hawkins. It’s something he’s proud of even four years later, because he left and grew into himself and didn’t become his goddamn father like he was always terrified he would. He loves that he healed enough to willingly return to his godawful hometown for his sister’s wedding.
More than anything else, he is completely and utterly in love with Will Byers.
And that is something his best friend can never, ever know.
OR: the party returns to hawkins for jonathan and nancy's wedding in 1993, and mike is sick of pining after his best friend from a distance
