Summary
Jiang Yanli has spent years learning how to be quiet like a flower: a lotus on the still water, beautiful and invisible and all-hearing. Wen Qing, though, is quiet like a knife.
Wen Qing has heard tell that the Nie appreciate directness. “My family, the Dafan branch of the Wen clan, are under Wen Ruohan’s thumb against our will,” she says. “We have suffered at his hand. I would request the protection of the Nie - your authority as a shield for our elders and our children.”
It’s a tall order. They both know it.

Summary
Jiang-guniang descends from the Yunmeng caravel with understated grace, wearing gauzy, lilac ceremonial robes over a neat spacecraft jumpsuit. Her daemon keeps pace with her as per Yunmeng tradition, unlike Qishan’s subjugation protocol, and the two of them approach with identical care, the woman’s robes giving a faint impression of wings while the crane at her side keeps their own neatly folded. Jiang Yanli’s hair is braided and adorned; the silver lotus ornament seems for a moment like a blossoming star, before its shape resolves into steely petals.
Jiang Yanli is, of course, a spy. She is lucky that Wen Qing and her daemon are seditious.

Be aware that, while there is no underage content, there is a momentary threat of an arranged marriage to an underage child- which threat is, of course, swiftly addressed.

Summary
It was halfway through Lone Moon and Claude's term at Garreg Mach hadn't even officially started yet. The graduating class were still on their final weeks as they prepared to leave, and the arrivals he'd be attending with were trickling in and settling down for when they'd start themselves next month. According to Rhea or Seteth or whoever had come up with this idea, that made this the perfect time for the new house leaders to take an overnight hike to 'get to know each other'.
Claude, who'd recently learned to hate the sheer number of insects that lived in the lush forests of Fodlan, felt about as enthused about this as the sharp-tongued Adrestian princess, Edelgard, looked. On the other hand, Dimitri, the friendly prince of Faerghus, actually seemed enthused about the idea of spending time with them, which was both baffling and endearing.
So off they went: to get bit by a thousand bugs, to engage in pointless physical activity away from the monastery with a random teacher and a few Knights of Seiros as an distant escort, and to hopefully 'get closer to' their fellow future rulers.
Well they certainly did the last, but Claude really didn't think Seteth had had this in mind.

The feeling hit Claude in the dead of night, a mere hour or two before dawn would break the horizon, and woke him from sleep. He didn't know what it was at first, stretching his senses, his magic out, further and further, through the new shoots coming up the soil, through the slowly warming air just beginning to throw off the chill of winter. He peaked through the eyes of animals, listened to the babble of distant brooks from the comfort of his canopied bed in the heart of his castle, deadly certain that something had gone dramatically wrong.
Hilda, Lysithea, Lorenz. He ran through each of his closest, one after another until his Deer were accounted for. All safe, safe, safe.
Then he realized his power was still spreading, nothing but shatters of frosted ice and melting snow pushing back against him, nothing solid and strong to meet him at the boundaries with all of winter's might.
Something had happened to Dimitri.

Summary
Izuna had neither seen nor thought about Mrs. Mito Uzumaki since the funeral where they'd buried her husband. He hadn't paid her much attention then either beyond the basic courtesies one performed - he'd been more concerned at the time for his blank-faced brother who should have still been in his own sickbed. Madara had not been taking losing his close friend to the Spanish flu well, especially not after the deaths of the Great War, and that was always going to be Izuna's priority compared to a dead man's family who he'd fairly disliked and a woman he'd hardly known.
Now ten years later it feels like he can't walk into a single crime scene without red hair turning up like a taunt.
