Summary
Its been around 11 months since Zanes sacrifice to defeat the overlord. As you may know, the whole team has gone their separate ways due to grief and inner conflict between them.
One night, Jay gets a troubling call from Dareth, letting him know Kais wasted and in a pretty bad shape after a fight down there at the Slither Pitt where's he's been spending the last few months. Jay rushes to get him and when he brings Kai to his apartment, their grief for their dead friend, yearning for reconnection with the rest, and their blooming romance keeps them together for longer than they expected.
But before they know it, they're sent to the Tournament of Elements, where they're going to continue to struggle with their complex feelings and save Ninjago city yet again.

After Kai’s gets his hair mercilessly roasted by Nya (and with reason) Jay offers to help him fix and wash it properly. Thing is, during their little ‘hair dresser session’, Kai realizes that he might just be head over heels for jay, and afterwards becomes desperate to find a way to get close to his crush again.

Jay collects himself though and joins me, our shoulders brushing slightly. My heart leaps but I need to remember where I am, what we’re doing, and who I’m with. I shouldn’t be thinking about Jay like this. I shouldn’t be imagining what it’d be like to have closed the gap between us just then.
But what if I had? Would that’ve been my only chance?
OR
Kai finds solace in the sky and nature to hide the fact he likes Jay. He and Jay go for an evening stroll in the harbour and one thing leads to another... Kai can finally come to terms with his feelings and stop hiding behind metaphors. And maybe Jay doesn't entirely want to remain just friends..
