Rolan has gotten used to the beatings, to being beneath Lorroakan's heel, but when he gives Lorroakan less and less reason to work out his rage on Tiefling flesh via fists, he decides to work through that adrenaline with something else.
When Lorroakan is murdered and Lia and Cal come to live at the tower, they find Rolan much different than they left him. They have to reveal some wants they've always had in order to heal him and show him what desire can truly feel like.

“I don’t think I do.” Rolan said.
“Zeus was the king of Gods. He had limitless power and authority. He was also a sort of teacher to the beautiful, naïve youth. Ganymede learned much from his Master on a wide variety of subjects…including magic, sex, and politics. It made little sense to the boy at the time, but as he collected lifetimes worth of knowledges and powers, he could scarcely remember what he resisted Zeus for. You can learn much from Ganymede.”
“If I’m Ganymede, then who is Zeus?” Rolan asked.
“Why, me, of course.” Lorroakan said.

But this one night before bed, as he can recall with perfect clarity, it was a story about a boy having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. A day when just about everything that could go wrong did go wrong, and it wasn’t really the boy’s fault at all, except maybe it was, but only sorta. At the time he had been quite sympathetic to the boy's plight, after all the day did sound quite terrible to a plant who was almost one year old himself, even if it did end with his mother tucking him in.
Now, at a ripe old hundred and fifty some years, he thinks that perhaps his day deserves to be the next edition of that book.

Spending a night in this other town, Vash wakes up feeling even worse, like he's coming down with something. He's antsy and can't sit still. Worst of all, heat pools in his abdomen. Stupid, Vash thinks. He does not already miss Wolfwood, or his stupid body, or his stupid mouth that nags and teases him constantly.
Vash groans. Now he's thinking about Wolfwood's mouth on him.

Summary
Wolfwood watches her leave, feeling trepidation in the pit of his stomach. What had Vash managed to get himself into this time? Wolfwood's normal skills of shoot first and ask questions later are of no use here, and he pauses before opening the door and peering inside.
It's obviously a storage closet of some kind; there are cleaning materials on the floor and a mop propped up against one side. A chair has been dragged in and set against the other wall, and Wolfwood lets his eyes scan over Vash. He's not wearing what he'd had on earlier, not just the coat; he's in a set of sweats and a tee that Wolfwood has seen him sleep in. His eyes are closed, and he's leaning against the wall, seemingly not noticing or at least not caring that someone has opened the door. There are drying white smears across his cheeks and chin, and vomit down the front of his shirt. Wolfwood swallows down the instinctual anger, the rage boiling within him.
This is what Vash had been doing on his own? It's clear enough, even to Wolfwood, what's been going on here, and even if it wasn't the large wet spot on the crotch of Vash's sweatpants would confirm.

Vash is pinned down.
He should never have let it get this far, he'd let his guard down too much, snuck away from Wolfwood so he wouldn't have to contend with that look he gives him when Vash drinks too much.
He shouldn't have drunk so much.
He could get away, could flip the man pinning him down into the dirty, broken glass-riddled alleyway, but the gun nudging against his temple gives him pause. He's not sure he's faster than this man's trigger finger, the man's breath coming hot and nauseating against the back of his neck.
He could get away though. Probably. If he could just make his limbs move. It's happened before, his mind and his body unsynced to the point where his limbs feel heavy and sluggish. He thinks maybe the man drugged his drink or maybe that's just wishful thinking, his own brain concocting a world where he isn't to blame for this.
