1. a young shoot or twig of a plant, especially one cut for grafting or rooting.
2. a descendant of a notable family. "He was the scion of a wealthy family."Grafting or graftage is a horticultural technique whereby tissues of plants are joined so as to continue their growth together. The upper part of the combined plant is called the scion (/ˈsaɪən/) while the lower part is called the rootstock.
