In which after everything in Severus life is shit as he turns 17, he decides, he doesn’t deserve it. So his solution is to say: fuck you all, I’m leaving!
He leaves Hogwarts, curses his father, takes the next ship to the continent, finds a wizarding community with an apothecary to work in and leaves the war, his past and one cathartic letter for his once best friend behind. And he feels great! He’s free! All is fine. Really fine…
Meanwhile one of these idiots also known as Marauders finds said letter, reads it and thinks: “Finally! He’s gone!” He doesn’t care. No, he doesn’t…
Sirius does. And that’s how, because Sirius is a selfish prick who can’t cope with his own guilt, he follows the greasy dungeons git. He’s going to bring him back just to ease his stupid, useless, recently developed conscience.

Summary
Severus' mother has left her abusive husband, and, together with her son, she relocates to a small town in the middle of nowhere. A town which happens to be the hometown of Remus Lupin.
While neither of them is particularly happy to run into the other at the beginning, things start to change when Remus realises that everything is different without the other Marauders around. A tentative friendship begins to form, and soon Remus isn't sure anymore that being friends is all that he wants.
